Dear Friend,
It has been a busy month in the Capitol, and
I have a lot of news to share with you.
I announced a plan that will end the
practice of providing
taxpayer-funded cars to Michigan's
Supreme Court justices, Appellate Court
judges and members of their staffs for
personal use. With Michigan facing such
tough economic times, we cannot afford to be
spending our residents' hard-earned tax
dollars on extras like free cars.
Fixing Michigan's budget crisis is a top
priority for me. This week, the House
unveiled its plan to replace the Single
Business Tax, which expires at the end of
the year. Our plan, the
Michigan Business Tax, rewards
companies that invest in our state and
create jobs for our workers. It also will
draw 21
st century jobs providers
to our state, and turn Michigan into a
magnet for the good-paying jobs of the
future.
I am also working to protect Michigan from
tons of
Canadian and out-of-state trash that
stream into our state every day. The House
passed a plan that will slam the brakes on
those trash trucks by attacking the
economics of the trash trade and increasing
our state's dumping charge. This strategy
worked in Pennsylvania, and it will work
here.
I want to meet as many of the people I
represent as possible, which is why I hold
office hours on the first Monday, first
Friday and third Monday of every month. I
invite you to meet with me to share any
thoughts or concerns you may have. Please
stop by if you have any issues or concerns
